Volunteer
Over the years I have been active in community service and social justice activities. For 25 years I was a volunteer at the VA Hospital and taught GED, ABE and ESL for a prison ministry; I volunteered answering the phones for two suicide hotlines and a 211 hotline. I also volunteered once a week keeping vigil at a men's homeless shelter. Currently I am assisting several men with arrest records to obtain their GED. We meet at a local library twice a week. They are drug dealers, sex offenders and gang members. As scary as that sounds, they are a lot of fun. And the drug dealers - they have mad math skills.
Church
What I look for in a church community is one that walks the Gospel walk, is not lukewarm, is a parish that is compassionate, forgiving, merciful, kisses the leper clean, or, simply put, lives the teachings of Jesus. I don't want a church which simply states those qualities in their mission statement. We’d like to think that our churches are this . . .
Recitals
I presented about 30 weekly lunchtime organ recitals (a very rewarding challenge) where we had attendance ranging from 50—200 people. Among the attendees were residents from a home for adults with disabilities who were bussed in, residents from the local parole shelter, a smattering of homeless people, and visitors from thirteen local churches. I have also been the guest recitalist at dozens of churches for special occasions, dedications, events and installations. Many samples may be found on YouTube.
Healing
In the late nineties I presented a program called “Playing With Fire” where I helped people heal from repetitive stress injuries such as ulnar nerve entrapment (tennis elbow), median nerve entrapment (carpal tunnel syndrome), radial nerve entrapment and tendonitis. The body can fully and rapidly heal itself without surgery, drugs, organized PT or splints. All too often our medical providers treat the symptom and not the problem which can lead to additional problems in a downward spiral. If you have a nail in your shoe, rest, drugs and PT will ameliorate the symptoms but not the problem—which is the nail. I trained people to learn how to heal themselves while being able to continue their daily activities pain free. I myself was once plagued by debilitating bilateral tendonitis for over two years until I met a practitioner and was healed of my symptoms within one hour. I have been pain-free ever since.
